Sled Dog Breeds
Siberian Husky
The Siberian Husky is a medium size working dog breed that originated in north-eastern Siberia, Russia. The breed belongs to the Spitz genetic family. It is recognizable by its thickly furred double coat, erect triangular ears, and distinctive markings.
Alaskan Malamute
Malamutes are generally slower in long-distance dogsled racing against smaller and faster breeds, so their working usefulness is limited to freighting or traveling over long distances at a far slower rate than that required for racing.
Samoyed
The Samoyed is a large breed of herding dog, from the spitz group. It's named after the Samoyedic people of Siberia.
Canadian Eskimo Dog
Canadian Eskimo Dogs need a very large amount of exercise. They cannot just be walked, they need higher intensity work.
Greenland Dog
The Greenland Dog was brought from Siberia to North America by the Thule people 1,000 years ago, along with the CED.
Other Sled Dogs
There are other sled dog breeds that exist around the world, which are much lesser known.
