Deviant Dog to Dream Dog by Lexie Liebhart and Sonia Liebhart

A mother and daughter who rescue and rehome huskies have penned a book to help dog owners train their pets.

Sonia Gager-Tomkinson, 61, and her daughter Lexie, 23, are the owners of Horse and Husky, a non-profit making business, based near Bootle.

The duo, along with Rob Mason, run the business which currently has 20 husky dogs and offers experiences to the public with their trained dogs.

And they are set to use their knowledge to help others, after writing a book, entitled Deviant Dog to Dream Dog, which focuses on the struggles and solutions to doggie problems.

Sonia explained the motivation behind the book: “Although huskies can make wonderful pets, they can often prove difficult to fit into a busy human world as they are known to be a challenging breed and not the easiest to train.”

The book has been written as a training aid to be applied to any dog, not just huskies and hopefully will give people the skills to help train a challenging dog and help avoid adding to the statistics of rescue dogs.

Lexi, who has designed and published a book for the first time, said they had translated her mum’s tried and tested methods of training.

“We have broken the book down into four chapters of principles and strategies and used illustrations and diagrams to help explain things in a simple fun way,” she said.

“We are so pleased with how the book looks and can’t wait to share it with anyone who would like some help and guidance with their pet.

“Although we mainly have rescue huskies the book is suitable for any dog no matter the breed, age, or even its previous experiences. People can work towards, and achieve, their goals with their pets.”
