So many people ask the question, are huskies good with kittens or cats ?
Huskies have a natural hunting instinct due to the Inuit people using them as hunting dogs. Therefore it’s in the dogs nature to kill anything small. They see it as prey. A husky has a high prey drive and will instinctively kill any small animal whether it be birds, rabbits or cats.
Some people think their dogs are fine with small animals, but I would strongly not recommend it. Huskies lure you into a false sense of security and once they have your trust could suddenly turn on poor kitty.
The high prey drive is one of the reasons a sibe shouldn’t be let off the lead. They have been known to kill livestock and so farmers are legally within their rights to shoot the dog if caught in the act.
Small dogs and cats are also at risk of injury or worse from a prey driven husky on the loose.
This does not in any way mean the breed is vicious. They are great with people and fantastic with children. The Inuit also used their sled dogs to keep their children company and warm. They are a very loving animal.
Just because it’s in a cats nature to kill a mouse, doesn’t make it a vicious animal.
