Jackie & Gary
In Feb 2007 we were blessed with a little husky girl. Maya came into our lives and has had such a positive impact on our family - my little princess.
We already had a husky called Charlie, but we knew that he needed company of the canine variety. We spoke with Faye and Richard about what we should do, should we get a little boy or a girl and following their invaluable advice we decided to increase the family with a little girl.
Maya is the "lone wolf" as she now lives with us in Ireland. I met Richard half way and Maya traveled home with me and my oldest son Nathan (who was 7 at the time). We were booked on the boat from Stranrear to Belfast and when we got back up to Scotland - the boat had been cancelled. Now if you knew me, this would come as no surprise to you, because if it can go wrong it will go wrong! It is just as well I take most things in my stride or I would need help! Anyway, we ended up on the slow boat back to Belfast at 3am in the morning. I was worried sick about Maya. I did not want her first night away from everything familiar to be on her own in a crate in the hold of a ship. I spoke with the crew and explained the situation. Thankfully I was speaking to a lovely girl who loved animals and she brought me down the car deck to get Maya. So the whole way home on the boat I had Maya over one shoulder snuggling in to me and my son up against the other one! We eventually got back to our home at around 5.30am. It was quite a day, but I always believe that everything happens for a reason, and having Maya next to me for that first night has formed a wonderful bond between us.
She settled straight in to our home. We kept her away from Charlie until she had all her jabs and then introduced them gradually. Initially she just
hero worshipped him. She followed him everywhere and every time he sat down, so did she. It was comical to watch! As she started to get bigger the fun really started. Charlie used to be able to take toys and food from her and she let him. Then one day she decided she had enough and barked at him and chased him away. He stopped in his tracks and looked at us as if to say - what have you done!! From that moment on Maya has definitely been in charge. Even though Charlie is much bigger than her, she totally wears the trousers in that pack! They are great company for each other and love being together.
Maya loves her daily walks - as long as it isn't too cold, raining or she gets her paws wet!! Honestly I think I should have called her "princess".
She is such a girly girl. My husband says that he is convinced she would let me paint her nails pink - and I think she would! She loves her pink
blanket and her favorite part of the house is on the sofa beside us, having a cuddle. She would sleep in bed beside me if I would let her. She is such a loving little girl and has such a wonderful gentle nature. She is very protective of us - her pack. Charlie can be quite dominant with the boys and Maya is straight over to put him in his place, she has been known to pin him down to teach him his place, and remind him that she is in charge of him , and this is her pack!
We all feel so guilty when we are going to work or school. All it takes is one look from Maya! When we get back she is so pleased to see us and we all rush to the back door to see her. She is always sitting on the other side of the door waiting for us to let her in.
She is 10 months old now and such a joy to have. We feel that she has adopted us and decided that we are allowed to part of her family - not the
other way around.
We appreciate all the help and advice from Richard and Faye, we have found it to be invaluable, and we know that anyone who has a Northernwolf sibe is truly blessed.
Jackie and Gary first came to us when they fell in love with a girl we had in to rehome for someone. After they decided they really wanted her and we decided they were right for her, the dog's owners suddenly decided they couldnt bare to part with her, leaving Jackie and Gary heartbroken. I've never felt so bad for someone as I did for them, hence Maya. Maya with her wolf like looks and gorgeous blue eyes hit the hearts of this wonderful irish couple and we went out of our way to make sure she would be theirs as we knew of the life and love she would have. Again friendship has deveoped between ourselves and Gary and Jackie. We are so glad Maya is with you guys, as it was so meant to be and is a happy ending to a true fairy tale story, as Maya is a little princess
