We first met Max on the 10th August 2008 he was 8 weeks old and just perfect, exactly what we were looking for.  Max was such a cuddly little puppy I knew as soon as I had him in my arms I couldn’t leave without him.

When we were chatting with Faye and Richard Max gave a small howl which I thought was fantastic!  On the way home in the car Max snuggled down and went to sleep.  I rang my daughters and told them we had a new addition to our family and they were so excited.  I sent a picture of him on my phone so that they could see him and I was told they were running round the house carrying the phone telling their nanna that they had a puppy and kept calling me asking how much longer we were going to be!

When we got back we went to my parent’s house where Bethan and Jolie were waiting watching for us out the window (they had been there almost permanently since I’d called them!)  Max was lovely he let them see him and they were so gentle.  We showed him his new bed, which he looked tiny on and then he went and lay under his nanna’s skirt with just his nose peeking out.

After we gave Max some food and a drink and let him get used to us we then went down home and showed him where he would be living and he went exploring.  My dad had bought us a collar and lead which were rather bright (that’s what happens when you send your dad! Ha ha).  On Max’s first night we introduced him to Eddie the Teddy, which he snuggled straight down with.  He cried a bit the first couple of weeks and when I went to see him in the morning he went crazy, you would have thought he had not seen us for a week!

Max loved his teddy and would go to sleep on him all the time.  Max was introduced to the Vet’s early so that he wouldn’t be anxious when he went for his injections.  Max was very brave when he got his injections and microchip he was my big brave boy.

I took Max down to the local pet store to get him a harness to get used to wearing one and he christened my car Max style!  I had to take him back home to get cleaned and then try again!

I bought a Max a clicker to help with his training but he was a quick learner and as soon as he saw you pick it up he would run and sit in front of you waiting for his treat, he’s not daft!

Max is so laid back everyone who has met him can’t believe how laid back he is.

Max went to the Woodhorn Dog Training at the Queen Elizabeth Park and met lots of new friends. His main friends were a couple of white Boxers and every time they met each other they would box.  Now Max thinks that is how he should greet every dog and we are having to try and learn him not to pounce on every dog he sees!  Not long after we got Max someone else got a Husky called Kia which he has made friends with and boxes with regularly lots of noise (all friendly) and feet!

Not long after we got Max he started to get what my brother in law called his eyebrows and said he looked like the chancellor for Labour and he got the nickname chancellor for a while until his markings changed some more.

Not long before Max was allowed out he thought he would play with a wasp and didn’t play for long before the wasp got the better of him and made him shout.  I got the wasp good and proper for that I normally run a mile when I see one but this wasp never made it out the house alive!!!!  He hasn’t learnt his lesson he still chases them.

We have been asked a few times now if we have a wolf and the girls make sure people understand he is not a wolf he is a Siberian Husky and he is ours!

Max has a thing about socks.  If we leave any items of clothing he never touches them but if there is a sock he will get it!  He also likes pompoms!  Bethan has a hat and scarf set that originally had pompoms but Max decided he wanted them so the hat and scarf are now pompomless.

Max is a favourite with the children at school they all come running but he wants his girls and waits for them.  He won’t let anyone stroke him if he doesn’t want them to which can be quite amusing to watch when people are trying to stroke his head and he is bobbing about avoiding them.  He takes it into his head every once in a while to walk up to his granda and start barking at him.  He does this to granda Ed and Peter too which is quite funny to watch.  His nanna is the firm favourite with him she can do anything and he takes notice.

Max likes to know where you are and will follow you around the house.  If you go into a room and the door closes he will sit outside the door and wait for you coming back out.  We keep his food in the garage at my parent’s house and he runs and sits outside the garage waiting for his food.

Max loves the beach; he likes to dig in the sand.  If the girls try to draw or write in the sand he will run over and start digging where they are playing.  Max likes the snow and ice.  He tries to eat the snow and when we pass a frozen puddle he can’t walk past it. He puts both front feet on the ice and then lifts his front feet off the ground and slams into the ice breaking it.

Max did very well with his obedience training so I took him to the pet store and let him pick out a new toy.  He picked a white teddy, which we named Freddie.  He was so happy with his choice his tail was up high and he carried it himself to the till and then all the way to the car head held high.  He turned a lot of heads and you could hear the people on the street ahhing at him carrying his teddy.

One thing we are desperate for and he won’t do is…. Max won’t howl!  We have tried all ways to get him to do it. We have played movies with sirens going, you tube videos with other huskies howling, we have sang, whistled and even walked round the floor howling and he looks at us as if we are nutters ha ha.

We took Max to Blyth to a pet store and got his photo taken by a professional photographer and they were lush when we got them back.  I got 3 photos all different and the girls claimed the ones that they wanted for their bedrooms.

Max was a star on bonfire night he had no problems with the fire works, we kept him in the house and had bought smaller fire works to have in the garden so that they weren’t too loud.  Max came and sat at the French doors at my parent’s house and watched the fire works too.  He sat right in front of the door and was watching them go up does anything faze this dog?  Yes!  He has a thing about traffic cones he gives them a wide birth as we pass them.

We went to Amble to be in the parade for turning on the Christmas lights.  We were all dressed up and put Max’s harness on and covered it with tinsel he looked canny.  I think he was the star attraction when we were passing everyone he was so good too walking like a good boy and was unfazed by all the people.

We were all so looking forward to Christmas, as we couldn’t wait to see what he would do.  He was such a good boy he sat in amongst everything and watched.  He wouldn’t wear his Santa hat though he didn’t like it on his head.  He got lots of nice things and liked his new teddy Boo.

After Christmas we went to our first Husky Rally down by Scarborough.  Unfortunately we missed the first half as it took a while to get down and with the traffic.  But we absolutely loved every bit of the time we had there.  I have to say it was so friendly and we loved being around so many huskies.  Max loved it down there too and enjoyed meeting other Huskies.  The girls thought it was fantastic and can’t wait until we go to another one.  They especially thought it was funny when they realised there was no toilets there and mother needed to go! Ha ha.  We are trying to learn Max the command for pulling and putting weights on his harness.  You never know we may have him pulling eventually!

My dad has built a kennel for Max in the garden and put a bit of carpet in fer him to lie on.  Max keeps going into the kennel, pulling the carpet out and lying ust outside the entrance of the kennel.

Max has started to go running with Stu short distances and Stu has said that he is the perfect fashion accessory he runs along great but everyone stops him to say what a gorgeous dog he has.  My dad is also learning Max to run with the bike and I have some skates so I can go faster with him rather than just walking.

I read that Husky’s were not guard dogs but if Max is in the garden and the postman comes he starts barking at them and they often shout through the gate or go into our neighbours garden and shout over the fence.  On saying that Max is right at the back of the garden when he is barking and if they came through the gate he would run.  If Max is unsure or not wanting to be bothered he comes and hides behind me he’s a big softie.

Max likes to carry things in his mouth when we are out walking and is always picking up branches and bringing them to our home I’m starting to get a collection.  Max decided the other day that my little tree in the garden needed pruning and helped me out with that; it looks much thinner, such a helpful little boy.

Max is partial to a toilet roll tube; he loves to get them and rip them to shreds and leaves a nice mess to clean up.

We took him to the pet shop and let him pick up a new toy.  This time he picked a snake, which the girls have named Slithery.  All four of his teddies are in fine shape – Eddie is still going strong and is the favourite.

At the moment Max is going through a faze which we have named the Tigger faze as he bounces off all four feet up and down like Tigger off Winnie the Pooh!  He has started jumping up at us when he greets us, which we are working at as he is bigger than the girls but the just turn their backs and laugh.

Max loves to get out with the girls.  He is at his happiest when he is walking amongst the children in his little pack.

With the snow that we have had Max liked to get out in the garden and play.  My sister and her children made a snow rabbit which I think is the only rabbit Max won’t chase it was a bit like Wallace and Gromits Curse of the ware rabbit but we said the picture should be titled Max and the curse of the snow rabbit.

I think this is as much as I can think of at the moment I’m sure I have missed lots of things that I will remember tonight.

All we can say is a big thank you to Faye and Richard for giving us this beautiful, amusing and perfect pup we don’t know what we would do without him.

THANK YOU
